As a birth doula I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, and physical comfort to make sure that you have the information that you need to make informed decisions in labor.

24 hour on-call beginning 2 weeks before due date

Early labor support as agreed upon
Birth Plan counseling
Nutritional counseling
Complement and/or supplement the information provided in Childbirth Preparation Class
2 Prenatal visits
Utilize non-interventive support techniques for variations in labor
Encourage the woman and family to take responsibility for their own individual birth experience through prenatal preparation, planning, and making their decisions based on factual information
Encourage open communication between the client and members of her birth team
Continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum
Assist in the event of an unexpected outcome by providing support, guidance, and information
Enhance the birthing environment by a gentle, calm presence
Offer breastfeeding support
Postpartum visit
Qualifications: I have received education for the Doula role from DONA (Doulas of North America) and have the following experience; I am a certified Doula through DONA, a certified childbirth educator through ICEA (International Childbirth Education Association), I am also a DONA approved Doula Trainer.
I serve families in the Cedar Rapids & Iowa City areas.
Personal notes: As a Doula I can share with individual women and families information that will facilitate a healthy educated pregnancy, a positive birth experience, and a satisfying postpartum transition to becoming a family. I believe that the services I provide can greatly impact the course of the childbearing year in a positive manner for the mutual benefit of the woman, family, and the members of the birth care team.
