Services: Doula Services and Homebirth Support - working together to determine your unique needs, I provide two prenatal visits, a mehndi design for your belly, continuous support through labour and birth, breastfeeding assistance, and 12 hours of postpartum care. Homebirth support may include, but is not limited to - meal preparation, birth tub set up, immediate clean up and sibling help.
Blessingway Celebrations - drawing from a variety of cultural traditions, this ceremony honours and celebrates the transition to motherhood. You will be pampered with an herbal footbath, crowned with flowers and blessed by your closest friends. Blessingways are the heart and soul of my services, and you will feel emotionally and spiritually ready for birth soon afterward.
Blessingway Supplies - we carry kits with handmade invitations, labour candles, sage bundles and other items to enrich your ceremony. We also have Self Blessingway kits for women wanting or needing a private ritual.
Mehndi for Pregnancy - adorn your beautiful belly with a custom henna design. Using ingredients safe for pregnancy, your belly will dance with a unique motif which will last for a week or two. I do home visits for mehndi application for blessingways, baby showers, or simply for a private relaxing experience.
Qualifications: DONA approved doula training, Certificate in Breastfeeding Counselling, Early Childhood Educator, and mother of two.
Personal notes: My philosophy of pregnancy and childbirth is that the childbearing year is an expression of love. Pregnancy is a state of health, and birth is a physiological, spiritual and primal process. My approach to doula care is holistically based, and I believe the journey to motherhood needs to be acknowledged, honoured, and celebrated. My journey as a mother and doula has led to me to embrace the wise woman tradition and its wisdom for pregnancy, birth and beyond.
My first step on the path to becoming a doula was through Douglas College's DONA approved workshop in 1997. Attending my first birth while six and a half months pregnant, I knew immediately that I had found my calling. After the birth of my son, I furthered my training by completing a Certificate in Breastfeeding Counselling. Since then I have completed all the requirements for certification with DONA and CAPPA including training, attending births as an apprentice, required readings, and good evaluations from primary care providers and clients. I have however, chosen to remain uncertified at this time, finding their requirements lacking a spiritual and intuitive component. I am currently opting to wait for the doula program through La Matrona, which will offer certification as a Holistic Birth and Postpartum Doula beginning in 2004.
