I am avaiable during the entire length of the pregnancy to answer questions - being a biochemist and having access to research article provides a solid basis to my replies.
Making a birthplan is an important part of birth preparation. I have several examples of birth plans to use as starting poinsts.
I will be on 24-hour call for you during the 2 weeks on either side of your due date. I have a backup doula in place if needed.
I will stay at the hospital until the baby starts nursing, unless we make a decision that it would be best to try the following day. I am not a lactation consultant, but I know a fair amount about breastfeeding, including some common complications. I also have experience breastfeeding while working outside of the home full time.
Qualifications: 1 birth away from a DONA certification, working on a Ph.D. in biochemistry, founder and moderator of a Russian-language pregnancy and early childcare community (more than 1200 members of as October 2005).
Personal notes: The doula's work consists of making the birth experience joyful, in guarding the mother's emotional space, and in upholding her birth wishes. It is my belief that the absolute majority of mothers can birth the baby naturally, armed with wisdom and knowledge.
I decided to become a doula after having a wonderful doula at the birth of my daughter. I am also a graduate student in biochemistry, which helps me understand the physiological unpinnings of labor and delivery well.
