Services: A birth doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth, who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth.
Prior to contracting me for my services, I will provide a no-obligation meeting. This will allow for us to determine our compatibility. If hired, we will meet at least once before the birth. We will discuss things such as: comfort measures, birth expectations etc. Typically, I will join you at the onset of active labor. However, I will be available at whichever point you feel I am needed.
After the arrival of your much-anticipated newborn baby, I will stay at least one hour postpartum. Once you have become better acquainted with your baby, we will set up a final meeting where we will discuss matters like: your overall birth experience, breastfeeding, infant care etc.
Qualifications: I am a volunteer for CAPPA's program entitled "Operation Special Delivery" which focuses on donating services to woman whose husbands have been deployed over seas.
I am a DONA Int' member and currently finishing up my certification.
Personal notes: I became interested in the process of birth while my husband was in the Marine Corps. It was while we were stationed in Camp LeJeune, that I found myself surrounded by an abundance of women without birthing partners. A lot of these women had husbands that were deployed. In addition to the obstacles that come along with deployments, most expectant mother’s had little or no support system in place. Having been in a similar situation myself, with the birth of my own son, I understood the importance of support both during and after the birth of a baby.
After high school I attended East Stroudsburg University, where I studied nursing. I have worked, periodically, in the medical field for almost a decade. I have always found working with people to be both gratifying and fulfilling. I am privileged to work with pregnant and birthing moms. Additionally, I feel touched to be included during such an intimate and monumental time in a woman’s life.
My husband and I were blessed with a beautiful baby boy back in March of 2005 and hope to continue growing our family, sometime in the future.
