Services: Our first visit will be to introduce myself and to explain in more detail what I offer and to find out what your needs and desires are for the birth. I will leave a contract and the next time we meet will be because you want me as your doula. No commitments are made on the first visit.
The second visit will include going over the birth wish list you and your partner have made, IF that is on your mind. I can assist in creating that if you would like. I have a suggested reading list to offer, as well as other resources of interest.
The third time will be labor day rehearsal. I will be available for chat and questions and updates thereafter. The two weeks prior and after the due date, I will be on call for you 24/7.
As a doula, my services are to serve and guide the laboring woman with emotional and physical support, through massage, words of encouragement, visual imagery, helping with breathing and focusing. Also I try to anticipate her needs, such as ice for thirst. I offer suggestions in movement to aid comfort and labor. All the while, I do my best to include the members of family present to assist, too. Not taking anyone's place is important to me.
After the baby is born, I am able to help mom with breastfeeding. If she is needing a post partum doula, I am available. Regardless, I do a follow up visit to see the baby and mom again and to talk about her birth experience. I also bring a "birth story" from a doula's point of view for her to keep.
One more thing, if I am sick, I do have a back up doula.
Qualifications: I have attended, as a doula, over 300 biths. I am a retired La Leche League (breastfeeding support group) Leader of ten years. Attending confereces pertaining to childbirth is important to me in continuing my education to better serve and I am thankful to have been able to attend many.
Personal notes: I am a mom of six wonderful people, so I have had a variety of personal birth experiences. Three of my children have already grown out of the nest. My husband of 25-plus years is very supportive of my business. Because of where I am in my life, I am able to be available when you need me. I have no health issues, so I have never grown 'faint' during long labors. I am 45 year old. I practice yoga and walking and prayer. I believe labor and birth are a natural process; one that is challenging but has great rewards.
