Services: I meet with the families and help them to get an idea of what i can do as a Doula to enhance thier babies birthday. We talk about a birth plan and what all the options are for pain management, positioning, possible complications, and surprises we may not expect but want to be ready for during the birth process. Then I am available by phone for questions night or day until the birth of your baby. As soon as the labor begins i will meet my clients at thier home or at the hospital which ever they are comfortable laboring. Then I provide continuous support for the entire birth and afterbirth of your child. During this time I make suggestions and use massage and positioning techniques that can make the labor process much more comfortable. I help the families to understand what thier rights are in the hospital and help them to understand and interperate medical referrances and acronyms. After welcoming the baby into the world I help the mom with her first feeding and then allow the family to bond. I usually make one home visit in the first week after the baby goes home to check on the baby and mom. At that time a give the family a birth story of the day you were born from the doulas perspective, this can go in the babies book so someday he or she will have a detailed idea of the events that transpired the day they were born.
Qualifications: I have been certified and active as a birth Doula with DONA, Doulas of North America, since 2000 here in Hawaii. I have helped about 54 families to welcome thier babies into the world in the last seven years.
Personal notes: I have three children of my own all born in different ways. The first one was unmedicated in a hospital, the next was pitocin induced and unmedicated, and the third was a water birth in a birthing center. All of my births were very different and i learned different things which helps me relate to different cituations that my birthing moms might expierience while giving birth. Most of all I believe in a womans ability to listen to her body and give birth in thier own special way, what ever that is. Empowering women to believe in themselves and thier bodies, that is what I am all about, its why I am a Doula, to protect and comfort my sister in her time of greatest need.
