Services: My birth doula services include an initial free consultation in which we get to know each other as well as an additional meeting before the birth to discuss your birth preferences, concerns and expectations. I offer unlimited phone support, handouts, books, and videos on various subjects if needed/requested, help writing a birth plan, use of a birth ball, 24/7 on-call access for two weeks before the baby's due date until he or she is born, support through the labor, birth, and immediate postpartum period, as well as a postpartum visit about two weeks after the birth to present your personal birth story that I have written, to discuss the birth, and to check on how things are going these first precious weeks at home together. I believe that each woman will give birth in the best way she can and that her labor and birth are her choice. I am here to help your outcome be an informed, confident, and satisfying one. My postpartum doula services are tailored to the needs of the new mom and her family. My services may include breastfeeding support, newborn care, mother care, helping mom to rest by entertaining siblings and caring for the new baby, light household chores, basic meal preparation and household organization, among other things. My role is defined by the mother and her partner.

Qualifications: Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula through DONA as well as a DONA member. I am also a member of Partners in Birth, and BirthMatters Virginia, groups that network and strive to change our local birth culture.

Personal notes: I have had four unmedicated births of my own: a daughter born in a hospital with a family practitioner in 1997, a son and daughter born under the care of midwives in a hospital setting in 2000 and 2006, and a daughter born in water in a birth center under the care of midwives in 2008. My passion is to support women and their birthing options and I aspire to one day assist them in bringing their babies gently into the world as a midwife.
