Services: An experienced Labor Assistant can help you to formulate what is important to you during labor and birth and work cooperatively within the birth team to help realize these goals. She will help you avoid unnecessary interventions and cesarean delivery through education, knowledge of alternatives, and by facilitating a smooth, unimpeded labor. Offering practical suggestions for working through contractions and pain to help you relax, she offers touch and massage, emotional support, variations in position and other labor support techniques. She will also act as an advocate for you within the birth team of providers by facilitating you in making informed choices about your care, ensuring you understand the benefits, risks and alternatives for all tests and procedures. When technology and/or medication are truly indicated, she will support you in your choices, staying with you when changes or unexpected outcomes occur.
Postpartum Care is also offered to you and is especially important during those first few weeks after Baby’s birth. Your postpartum doula will make sure you’re eating, support and encourage nursing, keep up on laundry, care for siblings, tend the garden, pick up groceries, prepare nutritious meals, tidy your home, provide phone support, connect you to community resources, share information about baby and new mama care and bring peace of mind to your transition, freeing you to relax in it. Postpartum care plans are flexible and may be tailored to your specific needs.
Qualifications: Our doulas are fully trained and certified with one or more of the following organizations: ALACE, Birth Partners, Bradley, CAPPA and DONA.
Personal notes: Owner Sue Wagner has been offering labor support, postpartum services and childbirth education since January 2001.
