Qualifications: I have helped a number of families during chilbirth both in the hospital and at home since 1999, and I continue to do this. I am currently finishing my certifiction as a labor assistant and also seeking my childbirth education certification through ALACE. I am practicing as a labor assistant free of charge until my certification is complete! I attended a week long intensive midwife assistant workshop with Ina May Gaskin and The Farm Midwives in Tennessee last August. I also gain experience assisting traditional midwife Norma Clark with her clients throughout North Mississippi.
Personal notes: I was born in Annapolis, Maryland and lived there until I moved to Oxford, Mississippi in 1995. I attended Ole Miss and received my Bachelor of Arts in English in 1999. After graduating I spent about a year traveling and working. I also applied to join the Mississippi Teacher Corps, a program that pays for you to get a Masters degree in curriculum instruction, while you teach for two years in a low income public school in Mississippi. I was accepted and taught 9th and 11th grade social studies in Marshall County for those two years.
